Salah Eldin Kassab, MD, PhD (Physiology), PhD (Medical Education), FAcadMEd Prof. Kassab is a Professor of Physiology and Medical Education, and Associate Dean Academics at the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University. He is also a Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University, Egypt. Prof. Kassab holds a PhD in Physiology through a joint program between the University of Mississippi (USA) and Suez Canal University (Egypt). He also holds a PhD degree in Health Professions Education from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands. He has held several positions in academic administration such as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, CMED, Qatar University (2017 to 2020), Chairman of the Department of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University (2013-2016), and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Chairman of Medical Education Unit at the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences (CMMS), Arabian Gulf University (AGU) in Bahrain (2005 – 2009 and from 2010-2013). He worked also as a Professor of Physiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)-Medical University of Bahrain (2009-2010). Prof Kassab is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators. He is also currently on the Executive Committee Board of the Association of Medical Education in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (AMEEMR), the regional body of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Prof. Kassab served also as a WHO consultant in Medical Education and accreditation in the EMRO region. He is also a member of the Editorial and Advisory Boards of several journals in medical education such as BMC Medical Education, Health Professions Education Journal, and Advances in Medical Education & Practice. He conducted several workshops on different areas of Medical Education in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Tunisia, and Jordan. He published over eighty articles in international peer-reviewed Journals in Medical Physiology and Medical Education.
The Scientific Assistant to the Director of Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Abdulzahra, chaired the first scientific session of the Patient Safety Workshop. The workshop, organized by Al-Kafeel Hospital in cooperation with Al-Ameed University and the Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, lasted for two days. It was attended by a number of professors and specialists from Jordan, along with medical, nursing, and technical staff working in the health sector. The workshop included a series of awareness and educational lectures.
Dr Tabassum Zehra is an Assistant Professor at Medical Education and Informatics Department, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman since September 2024. She is currently spearheading the faculty development activities at the department. Dr Zehra is a medical graduate with PhD in Medical Education from University Ambrosiana, Italy and a Master of Health Professions Education Programme (MHPE) from Aga Khan University (AKU), Pakistan. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK. She holds an extensive experience in Health Professions Education through being associated with the Aga Khan University (AKU) at Department for Educational Development and as Deputy Dean Medical Education at College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). At AKU Dr Zehra led the Master of Health Professions Education Programme (MHPE) as the Programme Director and represented the programme at national and international levels. Furthermore, she held the positions of Director Residents as Educators Programme and Chair Faculty Development Workshops. She received the AKU’s Outstanding Teacher Award for her contributions to the advancement of educational practices. She has been involved in teaching at an international level, is affiliated with Sadiq International Virtual University as an Honorary Faculty. She has presented her work and conducted workshops at International Conferences, including Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). Dr Zehra has published her scholarly work in peer reviewed national and international journals. She is the co-editor of the book under titled: ‘Global Medical Education in Normal and challenging Times’ by Springer Nature. Her areas of interest include Clinical Supervision, Leadership, Competency based Medical Education, Feedback and Faculty Development among others.
